Green building and green home remodeling is becoming more popular in many markets around the country. Community utility companies are getting involved in incentive and rebate programs to encourage customers to upgrade windows, appliances, weather proofing, irrigation controllers, hot water heaters and toilets to improve efficiency.  There are many ways to save on energy and the associated costs if you do a little research before making a major purchase for your home.

Start by contacting your utility company to request an energy efficiency inspection to evaluate your home.  Many communities offer this service at little or not charge.  Existing home owners and new home buyers interested in energy efficient appliances may consider reviewing the Approved Energy Efficient Appliance Rebate Programs page at the EPA  This page is searchable by state and is updated regularly with information on Energy Star products, home improvement, and commercial applications.  There is even a page for kids to learn about our planet, save energy and play games featuring Dr. Seuss's the Lorax!  Enjoy!

There are many energy efficient mortgage programs available that are under-utilized and not understood by many financing professionals and it's a shame because these programs can provide an avenue for home owners to finance these types of improvements.

This sounds like an interesting thread topic.  Are these "energy efficient mortgages"  new mortgage products particular to certain lenders or are they due to updates in energy saving legislation?  I hope you will share more about this with everyone here on Zolve.   What is it all about??
